Electronic Quantum Technology Research Fellow

Job type:

Application deadline:

Tuesday, August 5, 2014

The University of Surrey is looking to employ a full time Post Doctoral Researcher funded through the Hub, this post is available from 1 October 2014 and is funded for 3 years in the first instance. Quantum technologies harness the features of quantum mechanics to perform tasks that are hard or impossible with conventional technologies. Our consortium, led by UCL, is bidding for a £35M EPSRC UK Quantum Technologies Hub in Electronic Quantum Technologies (EQT), to be a multi-disciplinary research and development effort involving scientists and engineers, and both theoretical and experimental work. The Hub will translate basic work on solid-state quantum devices to applications in computing and simulation, as well as spin-off devices such as nano-imaging tools and current standards based on the same core solid-state electronic technologies. This is an exciting opportunity to be embedded within a major national initiative in quantum technologies, collaborating with researchers across a range of disciplines within the EQT Hub, as well as those across the wider Hub network.

You will conduct theoretical and computational research in the area of circuit quantum electrodynamics and optimal control to support the development of superconducting circuits based quantum computing and quantum simulation devices within the Quantum Technology Hub. The post holder will be required to work closely with Surrey investigators to achieve the aims of the funded project and interact with other Hub partners.

The successful candidate should hold a PhD in a related field and have a strong research track record, including academic publications. You must hold good mathematical and computational skills and have the ability to analyse and solve complex problems as they arise.

This position is subject to the award of the EPSRC UK Quantum Technologies Hub in Electronic Quantum Technologies grant to the EQT Consortium. Please note that in the event that the bid is unsuccessful, all conditional offers of employment will be withdrawn.

Salary: up to £35,597 per annum (subject to qualifications and experience)

Application: Informal enquires can be made to Dr Eran Ginossar (e.ginossar@surrey.ac.uk).

Applications should be made online at www.surrey.ac.uk/vacancies. Should you experience any problems please contact the Faculty HR Office by email at: fepshroffice@surrey.ac.uk

Shortlisting is expected to take place during the week commencing 4 August 2014, and interviews are expected to be held the week commencing 11 August 2014.
