PhD position in “Theoretical quantum optics, quantum many body dynamics and quantum simulation” in CQT Singapore

Job type:

The position is within the Quantum Optics and Quantum Simulators Group lead by Dr. Dimitris G. Angelakis in the Centre of Quantum Technologies (CQT) (http://www.quantumlah.org). The group's research interests span most aspects of theoretical quantum optics and its applications in implementing quantum computation and quantum simulation of many body phenomena. PhD projects will involve the study of one or more of specific physical set ups ranging from superconducting circuits, slow light/Rydberg atoms and integrated photonic chips as implementation platforms. One direction will be on the study of the emergence of correlated states and collective phenomena in the presence of dissipation and/or coherent driving in driven quantum optical set ups such as coupled cavity arrays.

The candidates should ideally have some knowledge of quantum optics and basic aspects of quantum information/condensed matter and should be within the top students of their university. A strong background in quantum physics/quantum optics and in using MatLab, Mathematica or similar software for simulating physical problems is a plus. Exposure in Atomic, Molecular, Optical physics and/or Quantum Information at the level of an MSc course is also desirable, as also is experience in programming either Fortran, C , C++.

The current group consists of two postdocs three PhD students. We are in close contact with other theory and experimental groups in CQT and have ongoing collaborations with groups in Europe and the US. These PhD positions will be CQT based with opportunities to visit the corresponding collaborators' groups. The positions are fully funded with a competitive salary including a travel grant.

The positions are available as soon as possible and we accept applications until a suitable candidate is found. Applications should be sent by email to dimitris.angelakis-at-gmail.com. They should contain a detailed CV and the contact details (email) of three referees
