Postdoc and PhD positions: Efficient Characterization of Large Quantum Systems

Job type:

Application deadline:

Thursday, May 15, 2014

The quantum information group at Freiburg University aims to fill one postdoctoral and one PhD position.

The successful candidates will jointly work on a project with the goal of developing new methods for the efficient characterization of large quantum systems. We will collaborate closely with the groups of Flammia (Sydney), O'Brien (Bristol), Cramer and Plenio (Ulm), and Schaetz (Freiburg). The project is part of a wider research program that unites quantum information theory on the one hand, and the mathematics of classical data analysis on the other hand (here, we are interested e.g. in compressed sensing, low-rank methods, and causal inference). Further information is available from www.qc.uni-freiburg.de.

While the positions will be situated in a theory group, at least one of the candidates is expected to have experience in working with experimental physicists. Skills in mathematical statistics would be helpful, but are not required at the time of hiring.

Candidates should send a full CV including a short statement of research interests to david.gross@physik.uni-freiburg.de. Please include electronic contact details of two referees. Deadline is the 18th of May. Later applications will be considered in case not all positions will have been filled. Starting date is flexible.

The selection process is subject to the German equal opportunities act ("AGG"). Part-time appointments are possible.
