Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Quantum Sensing and Metrology

Job type:

Application deadline:

Tuesday, September 23, 2014

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant in networked quantum enhanced sensing, in the group of Animesh Datta in the Department of Physics, University of Oxford.

The post is available initially for fixed-term duration of 24 months, with the possibility of extension for a further 12 months. This vacancy is conditional on the outcome of the NQIT grant application, with confirmation expected mid-September.

The post will involve designing quantum-enhanced multi-parameter sensing strategies. It will also study the performance of such schemes in quantum information processing platforms such as ion traps, photonics and solid-state systems. This will involve collaborating with experimental physicists and engineers. This will develop in connection with work in theoretical approaches to quantum-enhanced sensing in topologically sophisticated networks by applying classical communication theory and stochastic network theory.

Applicants should possess, or be very close to obtaining a doctorate in physics, mathematics, engineering or a related field and ideally have a strong background in statistics, networks and communications theory and/or quantum optics and quantum information theory. Candidates are expected to demonstrate knowledge of the theory of quantum metrology and the mathematical techniques of classical and quantum information theory.

Please direct informal enquiries about the role to Animesh Datta (animesh.datta@physics.ox.ac.uk).

Only applications received before 12.00 midday on 24 September 2014 can be considered. You will be required to upload a brief statement of research interests, CV and details of two referees as part of your online application.
