Postdoctoral Researcher Positions in Experimental Quantum Information (Paris)

Job type:

Two Postdoctoral Positions in Experimental Quantum Optics and Information
Laboratoire Kastler Brossel, Paris

Applications are invited for postdoctoral positions in experimental quantum optics and quantum information at Laboratoire Kastler Brossel (LKB), in Paris (France). LKB is jointly run by Université P. et M. Curie, Ecole Normale Supérieure and CNRS.

The proposed research is included in the starting European project “QSCALE: Extending the range of quantum communications”. It aims at experimentally demonstrating photonic and atomic components enabling the development of quantum repeaters and their integration into quantum communication and processing networks. QSCALE includes 6 European partners coordinated by the LKB quantum optics team. The successful applicant will play a key role in this cutting-edge and stimulating consortium. Two positions are opened:

- The first position will focus on the experimental development of photonic components for quantum architectures, state engineering, and quantum computing. Specifically, the project will be concerned with the development of a hybrid approach for quantum information processing, where continuous-variables of light and photon counting are mixed. The general aim is to develop the toolbox for this approach, including high-purity Schrödinger cat generation, which can be used for information encoding, and to demonstrate its use for applications in the distribution and processing of quantum information (e.g. entanglement distillation, hybrid quantum repeaters, gates for quantum computing with superposed coherent states).

- The second position will focus on the development of efficient optical quantum memories with large ensemble of cold atoms. The candidate will be responsible of an experiment aiming at demonstrating long-lived storage of quantum states and controlling interaction between remote memories, an important requisite for scalable quantum networks. He will also actively participate to the study of novel architectures for quantum repeaters based on hybrid schemes involving continuous variables and single-photon counting.

Eligibility and conditions: Candidates must hold an internationally recognized PhD.-equivalent degree (or completion in the nearest future) in a field related to experimental quantum physics. The dynamic and highly-motivated candidate should have a track record of experimental research in either quantum optics, quantum information or atomic physics. There is no restriction of citizenship.

Application procedure: Inquiries and applications should be sent by email to Julien Laurat (julien.laurat@upmc.fr). Applications should include a detailed CV, a brief statement of research interests and two names of potential referees. The call will remain open until the suitable candidate is identified.
