In recent years, there has been much progress in realizing systems with many degrees of freedom, and in which matter can be strongly coupled to light. This has been achieved in several experimental setups: ultracold atoms in optical lattices, Bose-Einstein condensates (BEC), semiconductor quantum wells, arrays of microcavities or trapped ions, and optomechanical systems. Such systems share certain important properties. First, they can be driven far out of equilibrium by applying coherent electromagnetic fields.

The KZN node of the South African National Institute for Theoretical Physics (NITheP) has one postdoctoral vacancy in the field of Open Quantum Systems and Quantum Information Processing and Communication.

The rapidly developing field of quantum technologies is set to have a transformative impact on core enabling technologies, from sensors to communications. There is a need for the crucial research that will develop new methods to enable the shift from laboratory devices and prototypes into manufacture and deployment. As part of a strategic investment in quantum systems engineering by Loughborough University, five fully funded PhD studentships are available in the area of Quantum Systems Engineering for Quantum Technologies.

The Quantum Information Group (GIQ) of the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona, UAB, offers a postdoctoral position within the project RaRQIP (Resources and Restrictions in Quantum Information Processing) funded by the 'Programa Estatal de Fomento de la Investigación Científica y Técnica de Excelencia'. The appointment will be for a one year term, (possibly) renewable for a second year.

We offer two Ph.D. student positions in the project ''New fundamental bounds on correlations of a strictly quantum nature. Various definitions of quantumness and their mutual relations''.

Date/Time: Tuesday, 9th June, 2015, at 1 pm GMT/UTC
Speaker: Lorenzo Maccone, Universita' di Pavia,
Title: Quantum Time

Applications are invited for two postdoctoral positions to work with Dr Gerardo Adesso on an ERC Starting Grant project entitled “Genuine quantumness in cooperative phenomena” funded by the European Research Council. The principal goal of the project is to analyse and challenge the quantum-classical border from a jointly fundamental and applicative viewpoint. The project is expected to deliver novel tools for the characterisation of quantumness in composite systems and to develop novel platforms for its practical utilisation in quantum technology applications.

Nuclear Theory Group invites applications to fill one or two postdoc positions. Applicants for these positions must have a Ph.D. degree, or foreign equivalent, and a strong record of published research in nuclear or condensed matter theory. We are looking for a candidate with knowledge of methods of many body quantum mechanics and possessing programming skills in Fortran and C. Knowledge of MPI and CUDA is an advantage.

Nuclear Theory Group invites applications to fill one or two doctoral positions. Applicants for these positions must have a M.Sc. degree, or foreign equivalent, and some experience in research in theoretical nuclear physics or condensed matter theory. Prospective candidate should have an interest in computational methods, and their application to solve physical problems. The successful candidate will join the international group working on the theoretical description of low energy nuclear reactions, dynamics of quantum gases and nuclear matter in neutron stars.
