The many body problem
-------------------------------------
How is it possible that the same and simple constituent atoms, when joined together, produce such a beautiful and diverse world? One can see this as a consequence of collective emergence, an aspect of physics relevant to several disciplines, from statistical physics to condensed matter, to high energy physics.

The Light-Matter Interactions Unit (https://groups.oist.jp/light) at OIST, headed by Prof Síle Nic Chormaic, invites applications for a postdoctoral scholar or staff scientist. The focus of the project will be on one of the research areas within the unit such as (i) nano-optics, (ii) plasmonic nanoparticle trapping, (iii) orbital angular momentum carrying light, (iv) cold alkali atoms for quantum technologies based on optical nanofibers. Only candidates with experience related to at least one of these areas should apply.

We are looking for talented and ambitious UK/EU graduates who wish to pursue a Ph.D. in Quantum Technologies and Quantum Foundations.

The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Dr. Vincenzo Tamma at the Physics Division at the University of Portsmouth, Prof. Gerardo Adesso at the School of Mathematical Sciences, University of Nottingham, and Prof. David Wands at the Institute of Cosmology and Gravitation, University of Portsmouth

The Physics of Information and Quantum Technologies Group, at Instituto de Telecomunicacoes (in Lisbon, Portugal), is seeking to hire two Post-doctoral Research Fellows.

The candidates are expected to have research experience in quantum information theory and/or quantum matter.

Application timing

Applications should be submitted by 27 January 2017, but earlier applications are welcome and will be processed immediately.

The positions will remain open if adequate candidates are not identified.
