Postdoctoral Fellowship on Integrated Quantum Photonics with Spin Qubits - University of Cambridge

Integrated Quantum Photonics with Spin Qubits - University of Cambridge

We are seeking applications for a postdoctoral fellowship with a strong experimental track record in quantum optics with solid-state or atomic systems to participate in our flagship projects involving spin-photon quantum interfaces. In particular, the project focuses on spin and photonic qubits of semiconductor quantum dots and aims to develop in parallel a Solid-State Quantum Memory using Nuclear Spins and generate Photonic Cluster States, in order to address two key elements of developing efficient quantum networks. The research encompassing this post will straddle both fundamental and applied directions including (but not limited to) understanding and controlling the many-body dynamics of the nuclear spin ensemble and their use for information storage in conjunction with photonic cluster state generation and optimisation of quantum devices for light-matter interface engineering. While the initial focus is on well-established QD devices, other emergent materials and photonic structures will also be studied towards the realization of efficient DLCZ quantum memories and spin-mediated entangled states of light.

Quantum Optical Materials and Systems (QOMS) is an experimental research group in Cambridge, UK led by Mete Atature and has a broad research portfolio on quantum science and applications using quantum-optical light-matter interaction in solids. Our current materials of interest comprise semiconductor quantum dots, diamond defects and atomically thin layered materials. The Postdoctoral Fellow joining for this project will enjoy working together with a vibrant team of postdocs and PhD students. More information on the Quantum Optical Materials and Systems Group is available at our group website.

The consortium: QLUSTER is a H2020 FET-Open project comprising seven institutions across Europe, all of which have world-leading research activities in solid-state quantum photonics. The main aim of this network is to demonstrate full on-chip operation of a QD-based quantum network in order to achieve breakthroughs in the scalability of this semiconductor quantum technology. Extensive interactions among participants will take place through exchange visits, secondments, network meetings, publications and conferences.

How to apply: Applications will be considered with a deadline of 30th September, 2020. The position is for 2 years initially and can be extended an additional year. The start date is tentatively 1st November, 2020, but can be extended to 1st February, 2019. Employment requirements of the University of Cambridge and the Physics Department apply, please check the official job announcement for more information on how to submit your application: http://www.jobs.cam.ac.uk/job/26552.
