Quantum Roundabout is a Postgraduate Student Conference focused on the fundamentals of Quantum Physics, to be held from June 29th to July 2nd 2014 at The University of Nottingham, School of Mathematical Sciences.

Applicants are invited for a postdoctoral position in theoretical and computational quantum thermodynamics.

The candidate should have strong background in quantum optics, quantum information theory and quantum thermodynamics. The successful candidate will conduct research in proposing, modelling and simulating quantum heat engines and quantum thermodynamic devices in nanoscale systems. The successful candidate will collaborate with an international team of engineers and scientist including faculty from biology, physics and electronics departments at Koc University.

Fueled by unprecedented experimental control on the meso- and nano-scale, it has become a timely issue to resolve long-standing problems related to the apparent contradiction between quantum theory and thermodynamics. Indeed, in recent years, ground breaking progress has been made in understanding the precise microscopic mechanisms underlying thermodynamics and statistical mechanics.

The Centre for Quantum Dynamics undertakes experimental and theoretical studies of the dynamics (the motions, and energy and momentum exchanges) of systems of particles whose behaviour is governed by quantum mechanics. Specifically, the Centre activities include research in laser and collisions atomic physics, quantum optics, atom optics, quantum mechanics and quantum computing.
