Subject: [QOART seminar (22-May-2026 at 3:00pm MSK)] Generalized thermodynamic projector and kinetic equations for open quantum systems by K. Sh. Meretukov
Dear colleagues,
We are pleased to announce the next online seminar on QOART (Quantum optics and related topics)!
Title of the talk: Generalized thermodynamic projector and kinetic equations for open quantum systems
Speaker: K. Sh. Meretukov
Abstract:
We develop a systematic projection operator technique for deriving kinetic equations describing the dynamics of open quantum systems. The approach is based on the generalized Kawasaki–Gunton projector. In the weak-coupling limit, this framework yields a closed second-order time-convolutionless kinetic equation for the averages of the relevant observables, which is generally nonlinear due to the nonlinear dependence of the ansatz on its parameters
The method is benchmarked on several physically distinct systems — a two-level system under resonance fluorescence and the driven dissipative Kerr oscillator — where the approximate solutions show good agreement with exact analytical and numerical results, confirming the accuracy of the approach.
To demonstrate the universality of the method, we apply it to the spin-boson model. For the Lorentzian spectral density, our results show good agreement with the numerically exact HEOM method. Crucially, unlike HEOM, the present approach is not restricted to equilibrium environments: it naturally accommodates arbitrary spectral densities and baths with time-dependent, non-thermal occupation numbers N(ω, t).
