PhD

A PhD-student position is available in the „Young Independent Researcher Group“ lead by Dr. Yelena Guryanova, Dr. Ämin Baumeler, and Dr. Costantino Budroni. This group is inter-institutional; it is affiliated with the Institute for Quantum Optics and Quantum Information (IQOQI), Austrian Academy of Sciences, Vienna, as well as with the Department of Physics, University of Vienna, Vienna, Austria.

Secure quantum communication over long distances may be enabled by the development of satellite platforms for the distribution of quantum states and entanglement from space. The Chinese satellite Micius has demonstrated the technical feasibility of satellite quantum communication and there are many international efforts to achieve similar capability. Quantum Key Distribution is the prime application but such space systems may be able to support new and novel protocols even more challenging to perform with terrestrial fibre networks.

This PhD scholarship in Quantum Information & Control is under the supervision of Daniel Burgarth at Macquarie University, Sydney, Australia. It covers the national/international tuition fees as well as support for travel and research costs, and provides an annual stipend of 27,596 AUD. The group at Macquarie hosts a range of leading researchers working in experimental and theoretical Quantum Information, including Dominic Berry, Gavin Brennen, Daniel Burgarth, Alexei Gilchrist, Danny Terno, Jason Twamley, and Thomas Volz.

We offer two four-year PhD positioions in Quantum InformatioTheory. The grant is run by dr hab. Marcin Wieśniak and is titled "Complex Entagled states: production and analysis". The research plan includes:
-studyinng toric codes in higher dimension
-work towards an optical demonstration of measurement-based quantum computation and analysis of effects of various physical errors
-studyning new self-testing Bell inequalities

Quantum Molecular Systems Group leaded by Dr Michał Tomza at the Faculty of Physics of the University of Warsaw in Poland - http://quantmol.uw.edu.pl - is looking for a PhD student in the field of theoretical AMO / ultracold physics and quantum chemistry.
