The Complex Photonic Systems Group at the University of Twente’s MESA+ Institute for Nanotechology is looking for a postdoctoral researcher in quantum optics for the project ‘Quantum Nano Keys’.

The project

Quantum Nano Keys is focused on authentication using physi-cally unclonable keys (PUKs). PUKs are devices with a high number of physical degrees of freedom, which cannot be copied due to their high degree of (classical) complexity. The COPS group has previously demonstrated a quantum authen-tication scheme based on such devices. The goal of this pro-gram is to broaden the applications of quantum secure authen-tication to secure communication and for the verification of objects and persons.

This project is funded on an exploratory grant of the Dutch national science agenda (NWA). Part of this project is to ex-plore the scope of further research with the partner institutes (TUe, UvA, UU, and the NFI). There is considerable scope for the successful candidate to adjust the direction of the project to their interests.

Your profile

Candidates must have a PhD in physics or equivalent. Expertise in quantum optics (particularly parametric down-conversion sources) is advisable. The candidate will operate in the research team of Prof. P.W.H. Pinkse, and is expected to contribute his experimental and theoretical skills to the projects within the team. We expect candi-dates to be proficient in English, to have good professional communication and team working skills, and to be open to interdisciplinary collaborations with scientists from high-tech industry.

Practicalities

We are looking for a candidate to start no later than January 1st 2019. The salary will be according to the collective bargaining agreement for Dutch universities, and will scale according to relevant experience, starting from gross EUR 3.2k/month. On top of this, there are generous fringe benefits (such as vacation allowance and end-of-year bonus).
