We are seeking a highly motivated PhD student to work on
theoretical aspects related to the many-body physics of ultra cold
atomic ensembles excited to Rydberg states. Potential research
subjects are broad and should fall into the scope of the ERC
Starting Grant 2013 - ESCQUMA. They range from the exploration of
exotic many-body phases and phase-transitions with interacting
Rydberg atoms and the non-equilibrium behavior of open quantum
systems to practical applications of Rydberg atoms in quantum
information processing.

PhD scholarships are available at Macquarie University Research Centre in Quantum Science and Technology (QSciTech) at Macquarie University via the APA scholarship scheme (deadline 30th June 2014). The 2014 APA full-time stipend rate is $25,392 pa tax exempt. QSciTech is in the Department of Physics and Astronomy, but this is a multidisciplinary topic, and we also invite applications from students with degrees in Computer Science, Mathematics or Engineering.
