The Quantum Information group (Department of Computer Science, Paderborn University, Germany) in the Faculty for Computer Science, Electrical Engineering and Mathematics is seeking a:

Research Associate (PhD student)

This is a full-time position for work on “Many-body Entanglement, Classical and Quantum Error Correction, Holographic codes, and Quantum networks”, available immediately for a fixed term of three years. An extension of the contract to complete the doctoral dissertation is possible. The exact starting date is flexible.

Candidate’s profile:

*) A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Physics, Computer Science or Mathematics

*) Basic knowledge of quantum physics (e.g., quantum mechanics, quantum information, quantum computing)

*) Prior experience in programming and numerical methods is preferred

*) Fluent English in writing and speaking

The list of responsibilities:

*) Performing research on quantum applications, communication, and computation, as well as developing ideas and communicating them within the project
*) Preparation and dissemination of the research results at international workshops and conferences, as well as contributing to writing drafts for submission to peer-reviewed journals
*) Teaching duty for 4 hours per week

This is a newly established research group led by Dr. Zahra Raissi at Paderborn University in Germany. We will collaborate closely with many other groups here in the Faculty for Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, and Mathematics as well as universities and institutes outside Paderborn. This position will be endowed with a very attractive salary, and travel funds will be available for attending conferences or schools. 

Paderborn is a beautiful city in eastern North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. This city has very good public transport and connections to neighbouring cities and you can easily find people who can guide you in the English language. We will be working in the O-building with the exact address: Pohlweg 51, 33098 Paderborn, Germany, which is very close to the city centre and is a quiet and safe place (see the Paderborn University map).
