Research group:

There is a PhD opening in the group of Fabian Hassler on `Exploring Majorana modes in van der Waals heterostructures' at the Institute for Quantum Information at RWTH Aachen University (www.rwth-aachen.de/cms/~bbllv).

Majorana particles are a contender to realize qubits in topological systems where braiding implements unitary operations in the Hilbert space. The scientific project will involve the theoretical study of tailored van der Waals heterostructures with very low intrinsic disorder in proximity of superconductors in order to realize these topological states. A close collaboration with experimental groups at RWTH Aachen and the University of Cologne is envisioned.

I am looking for a highly motivated researcher that has recently finished his/her master's studies. The successful candidate will work at the Institute for Quantum Information (IQI) at RWTH Aachen. The position is embedded into the cluster of excellence ML4Q (http://ml4q.de).

The application should be sent to hassler@physik.rwth-aachen.de. Applications should include a cover letter, a CV, a copy of the Master thesis, and the contact details (names & emails) of two potential referees. The screening of the applications will start in January and will continue until the position is filled. The preferred starting date is April 2023 but remains flexible.
