The University of Massachusetts, Amherst, seeks talented candidates interested in pursuing a PhD in Quantum Information Sciences. Positions are available in the following groups:
Krastanov Group: Stefan Krastanov works on developing novel ways of transferring quantum information over long distances and generating long distance entanglement. His work investigates new strategies of utilizing quantum error correction in quantum repeater architectures. In particular he is interested in designing hybrid repeater schemes that combine resource-expensive error correction with more near-term techniques of remote entanglement generation, which have already been demonstrated in recent proof-of-principle experiments.
Vardoyan Group: Gayane Vardoyan’s research has focused on the modelling, performance analysis, and optimization of distributed quantum systems. Her group aims to develop algorithms that will be robust and reliable in their ability to supply resources, such as entangled states, to applications that need them. These algorithms are often inspired both by analytical models of quantum network architectures, as well as techniques found in the classical networking, machine learning, and reinforcement learning literatures.
