The scholarships offer a competitive stipend of AUD $41,650 per year for 3.5 years, a $15,000 training allowance, a $5,000 travel allowance, an $840 publication allowance and a one-off $5,000 cost-of-living payment. For Domestic students only.
This PhD topic will cover the design and measurement of silicon spin qubits based on quantum dots (QDs). Particularly, the project will focus on developing and implementing system and qubit benchmark techniques that are useful for near term and longer-term spin qubit processors. The student will work towards establishing and demonstrating useful metrics and means of characterising increasingly complex qubit device architectures. There will be opportunities to learn about advanced nanofabrication techniques, fast readout and coherent control of qubits all performed at millikelvin temperatures in dilution refrigerators.
Quantum Motion are marrying fifty years of global CMOS development with world-leading expertise in qubit design and architectures. Quantum computers promise to solve computational problems intractable for classical machines. To be able to run these algorithms, modern quantum computing hardware needs to be scaled up. Silicon-based approaches to building a scalable quantum processor offer advantages such as high qubit density, record qubit coherence lifetimes for the solid state, and the ability to leverage the advanced nanofabrication methods of CMOS technologies.
This project would suit an exceptional electrical engineering, quantum engineering or physics student with strengths in quantum mechanics and data analysis who can devise and apply practical engineering solutions for tomorrow's quantum computers.
