Job Description

IBM is seeking a Research Staff Member to work at its T. J. Watson Research Center in Yorktown Heights, NY.

You will work as part of a team of theoretical and experimental physicists, computer scientists, and engineers on the quantum computing effort at IBM. Ideal candidates will have familiarity/understanding of quantum error correction and fault-tolerant quantum computing; they should be comfortable implementing quantum algorithms, or classical decoding algorithms and writing and using modeling, simulation, and/or optimization software for these goals. A demonstrated record of research is highly preferred toward any of the following: novel fault tolerance protocols, efficient methods to protect quantum information, overhead reduction, circuit optimizations, or incorporating realistic, experimentally-motivated constraints into fault-tolerance protocols.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

Ph.D. in Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline is required.
At least 2 years demonstrated research record in quantum error correction and fault-tolerant quantum computing, this includes Graduate-level research
Ability to gain and maintain appropriate security clearance
**U.S. Citizenship is required**

Preferred Tech and Prof Experience

Familiarity with writing research-grade software tools

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

At least 5 years demonstrated research record in quantum error correction and fault-tolerant quantum computing
Familiarity with writing research-grade software tools (C/C++/Python)
Ability to gain and maintain appropriate security clearance

Preferred Tech and Prof Experience

Proficient with Microsoft office products such as Powerpoint, Excel, Word and Project
Working knowledge of LaTeX
English-Fluent
