The Technical University of Dortmund has an opening for a PhD student. The successful candidate will be working on the implementation of photonic quantum memories on the basis of rare-earth ion crystals. The goal of this project consists in storing photons in crystals of rare-earth ions, converting them into excitations of nuclear spins and protecting them against environmental perturbations. The project is integrated in the EU-ITN CIPRIS (http://www.cipris.eu/).
The Vienna Doctoral Program on Complex Quantum Systems invites applications for PhD fellowships.
The Vienna Doctoral Program on Complex Quantum Systems (CoQuS) is a training center for more than 40 students who are selected from an international pool of applicants, based on their academic excellence, scientific success and ambition.
Research in CoQuS covers experimental and theoretical quantum physics:
PhD funding for research in quantum computation, focusing on either
quantum random walks or quantum game theory. Please see also
http://www.maths.nuigalway.ie/~gettrick/research/
and email michael.mcgettrick@nuigalway.ie for further discussions.
(The funding is provided directly by NUI, Galway, see
http://nuigalway.ie/hardiman-scholarships/ )
Applications from Indian nationals are invited for the following positions (initially for 1 year) under the project “Topology, quantum computation and spintronics with Dirac materials” in the School of Physical Sciences, NISER funded by DST Nanomisssion, Govt. of India.
1. RESEARCH ASSOCIATE:
Qualification - Candidate should have Ph.D degree in Physics (or, should have submitted the thesis), preferably in theory. Fellowship: Rs.24,000+HRA (as per DST norms) per month. Age: Maximum 35 years as on last date of application.
We are looking for a suitable candidate to carry out a PhD thesis in our group working with ion traps and lasers to perform precision experiments with laser-cooled Ca+ ions in a Paul and in a Penning trap. The selected candidate will work on running a Paul-trap experiment to perform side-band cooling on a single Ca+ ion, using diode lasers and a Ti:Sa laser. He/she will participate in the development of a device referred to as Quantum Sensor in the framework of the project TRASPENSOR funded by the European Research Council.
PhD Scholarship in the Engineering of Hybrid Quantum Systems
Physical Sciences/Other Physical Sciences
The positions are within the Quantum Optics and Quantum Simulators Group lead by Dr. Dimitris G. Angelakis in the Centre of Quantum Technologies (CQT) (http://www.quantumlah.org). The group's research interests span most aspects of theoretical quantum optics and its applications in implementations of quantum computation and quantum simulations.
