The call for applications for the 2014/15 edition of the Doctoral Programme in the Physics and Mathematics of Information: Foundations of Future Information Technologies (DP-PMI) will close on 18 March 2014.<!--break-->
The DP-PMI aims at providing advanced curricular and research training in the recent developments and fundamental challenges in information sciences and technologies.
The DP-PMI is hosted by Instituto Superior Tecnico (IST), the School of Science and Engineering of the University of Lisbon, in Portugal, and eight associated research centres.

As part of the Frontiers in Quantum Technology (FQT) Programme, applications are invited for a PhD position in our group at Imperial College London, United Kingdom. The position is fully funded, and includes an excellent salary, ranging between £35,653 - £42,857 per annum (note: this range is approximate only and may vary significantly depending on the exchange rate). In our group at the University of Siegen (Germany) we are looking for a motivated PhD student in the field of quantum information theory. The research topics include:

* foundations of quantum mechanics, e.g. quantum contextuality
* theory of entanglement and correlations in complex systems
* statistical aspects of data analysis in quantum experiments

Applications are invited for PhD positions in experimental quantum optics and quantum information at Laboratoire Kastler Brossel (LKB), in Paris (France).

The Technical University of Dortmund has an opening for a PhD student. The successful candidate will be working on the implementation of photonic quantum memories on the basis of rare-earth ion crystals. The goal of this project consists in storing photons in crystals of rare-earth ions, converting them into excitations of nuclear spins and protecting them against environmental perturbations.
