PhD

A PhD position for a UK/EU student is available to work with Marco Piani, at the the Department of Physics of the University of Strathclyde, in Glasgow, UK. The research activity will focus on fundamental quantum features like entanglement and coherence, and their role in quantum information processing and quantum dynamics.

Applications should be submitted as soon as possible through http://pgr.strath.ac.uk/ (by 25 June 2015 to be fully considered; later applications may still be considered).

The Institute for Logic, Language & Computation at the University of Amsterdam is looking for a PhD candidate in the area of quantum cryptography, as part of Christian Schaffner’s NWO VIDI Project Cryptography in the Quantum Age.

We are pleased to announce the availability of a PhD position at the University of Nottingham in the area of Quantum Technologies related to the creation of an atom-photon interface. The aim of the project is to create a single device, which allows the optimal connection of photons to cold atoms for quantum optics and quantum information experiments. To this end we use a transparent microchip with embedded waveguides, where atoms in a magneto-optical trap can be stored close to the chip surface.

The rapidly developing field of quantum technologies is set to have a transformative impact on core enabling technologies, from sensors to communications. There is a need for the crucial research that will develop new methods to enable the shift from laboratory devices and prototypes into manufacture and deployment. As part of a strategic investment in quantum systems engineering by Loughborough University, five fully funded PhD studentships are available in the area of Quantum Systems Engineering for Quantum Technologies.

We offer two Ph.D. student positions in the project ''New fundamental bounds on correlations of a strictly quantum nature. Various definitions of quantumness and their mutual relations''.
