Professorship

The Johannes Gutenberg-University of Mainz invites applications for a professorship in experimental quantum optics and quantum information. Applicants should have a strong scientific record in one of these areas. Collaboration with and complement of existing working groups at Mainz, strengthening of the impact of corresponding research networks with participation from the University of Mainz is expected. Appropriate involvement in teaching in experimental physics is mandatory.

The School teaches a range of undergraduate and Honours courses, and conducts research in space plasma physics, quantum information processing and magnetic properties of materials, and applied physics in the areas of solar-thermal energy, photonics and fluid dynamics. The appointee will teach, supervise postgraduate students, and be active in research, administration and community service.

The University of KwaZulu-Natal is one of the top three Universities in South Africa and in the top 500 Universities globally. The School conducts research in space plasma physics, quantum information processing and communication, magnetic properties of materials, and applied physics (solar-thermal energy, photonics and fluid dynamics). The School seeks an experimental physicist at the Associate Professor or Full Professor level who will provide leadership in one of its research areas, or in a closely-related field.

Applications are invited for a Chair in Theoretical Quantum Optics / Quantum Information Science. The post is available from 1st January 2010 and is based in the Quantum Optics and Laser Science (QOLS) Group of the Department of Physics.
