The Faculty of Science at Tübingen University invites applications for a W3-Professorship in Machine Learning in Physics at the Department of Physics (m/f/d) starting as soon as possible.

The professorship is embedded within the Excellence Cluster "Machine Learning: New Perspectives for Science", which is now entering its second funding phase. The successful candidate is expected to have an established research profile in a core area of physics, as well as a strong track record in research questions related to machine learning and/or artificial intelligence.

Dr. Wenyuan Wang, Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy, University of Calgary, is recruiting MSc and PhD students incoming Fall 2026, to be working on theoretical quantum communication or optical quantum information processing.

Potential topics:

A funded 4-year joint PhD between King’s College London and the National Physical Laboratory (London, UK) is available for methodological developments into quantum algorithms for realistic electronic structure.

In robotics, many perception and control challenges are formulated as the optimization of complex, non-linear cost functions. A fundamental example is the estimation of a camera’s position and orientation from known correspondences between 3D points in the environment and their 2D projections on the image plane. This problem, known as the Perspective-n-Point (PnP) problem, is central to several key robotic applications, including localization, 3D reconstruction, and autonomous navigation.

In this role, you will contribute to the design and development of novel quantum algorithms aimed at approaching nonlinear partial differential equations. In particular, you will work within the MIHYSYS project, which aims at understanding the potentialities and limitations of quantum computing to approach super and hypersonic flows. This research includes the development of strategies to contour limitations of NISQ variational quantum algorithms, as well as performing end-to-end resource estimations for early FTQC algorithms considering realistic hardware constraints of different technologies. You will work in close collaboration with french startups of the quantum ecosystem, and contribute to the design of an internal roadmap on quantum computing for aerospace applications.
