The Oxford-based group of Professor Simon Benjamin (see QTechTheory.org) is looking for an exceptionally talented and motivated theorist to join the team. The Department of Physics and the Department of Computer Science in the Faculty of Arts & Science at the University of Toronto invite applications for a full-time tenure stream position in the area of Quantum Information. The successful candidate will be jointly appointed in the Department of Physics (51%) and the Department of Computer Science (49%) at the rank of Assistant Professor. The appointment will commence on July 1, 2020, or shortly thereafter.

The Centre for Quantum Information and Quantum Control at the University of Toronto invites applications from outstanding candidates for its Prize Post-Doctoral Fellowship. The program provides funding for the very best postdoctoral applicants, both nationally and internationally, who will positively contribute to University of Toronto’s program in quantum science and technology.

The PhD project is in the domain of many-body physics with highly excited Rydberg atoms. The position is funded via the DFG priority programme GiRyd (http://giryd.de/en/) through the grant "Non-equilibrium phenomena in Rydberg lattice gases with facilitation constraints". Areas of interest will be the study of the emergence of correlated dynamical states, the characterisation of phase transitions and collective phenomena, and the competition between classical and quantum effects, together with issues of thermalisation and non-ergodicity.

A PhD position is available immediately to work at the Quantum Technology Group at Queen’s University belfast on non-equilibrium quantum thermodynamics enhanced by machine learning. The position will be funded by the Royal Society Wolfson Research Fellowship recently awarded to Prof Mauro Paternostro.

Summary of Position and Responsibilities

Xanadu is seeking a full-time Experimental Physicist/Research Engineer to work within the hardware team (20+ physicists and engineers) to develop and optimize all aspects of their transition edge sensor technology, and its integration into quantum computing hardware. This role involves full-stack systems-level design, construction, prototyping, testing, and deployment of cutting-edge detection technology. In addition, candidates may be responsible for writing patents and peer-reviewed publications describing these devices and their capabilities, when applicable. Successful applicants will have a proven track record of accomplishments and creativity in scientific experimentation, prototype development and precision measurement.

The University of Toronto Department of Physics, in collaboration with Xanadu (www.xanadu.ai), a full-stack quantum computing startup company in Toronto, is initiating a joint research program into frontier projects on continuous variable quantum optics, in particular, the generation and characterization of non-Gaussian and Gaussian states. Within this project there are a variety of roles, from pure theory through to device engineering.
