The position is going to be affiliated with our quantum computing group (www.jku.at/iicqc) within the computer science division and we are going to prioritize basic quantum computer science (broadly defined) over applied research. Application deadline is November 30th, 2025.

We are seeking a highly motivated student with a Master's Degree in Physics, Quantum Engineering, Quantum Information Science (or related fields) to join the Quantum Information and Matter Group at Saarland University headed by Prof. Peter P. Orth. Our group is part of the recently established Quantum Technology Center (QuTe) at Saarland University—a dynamic, interdisciplinary research hub uniting expertise in computer science, mathematics, engineering, chemistry, and physics. Through our close partnership with the Helmholtz Forschungszentrum Jülich, we offer unique opportunities for joint projects, networking, and access to cutting-edge HPC and quantum computing resources. The successful candidate will conduct research at the interface of quantum information science and physics.

Specific research directions include: Quantum algorithms for simulating quantum field theories, interacting many-body systems, and combinatorial optimization. The implementation and end-to-end resource cost estimations of these algorithms on current and near-term early fault-tolerant quantum hardware. We seek a post-graduate (PhD) student to join the quantum information science group of
Animesh Datta at the University of Warwick. The theoretical project will develop algorithms that answer the question: “Given an engineered quantum system, does it have the properties necessary to perform fault-tolerant quantum computation, or is it far from having them?” Methods of property testing from theoretical computer science will be used. Emphasis will be placed on minimising the space and time complexity of these algorithms.

The postdoc will work on our project coupling single strontium atoms to nanoscale defect cavities with the ultimate goal of creating quantum states of massive mechanical resonators. The position is fully funded for 2 years by my ERC starting grant.

Our group at Sharda Univ (India) is active in development of Quantum Algorithms for Quantum attack on Post-Quantum Cryptography schemes. Although other directions for research is also open like quantum machine learning, and entanglement dynamics.
