The Materials Research Laboratory (MRL) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is seeking a highly motivated Managing Director for the Illinois Quantum Information Science and Technology Center (IQUIST). IQUIST’s mission is to explore applied quantum information science, thereby bringing world-changing technologies, a cutting-edge workforce, and new industries to the state and to the world.

We announce the opening of two PhD positions in non-equilibrium many-body theory in the Institute of Physics at the Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz to work in the group of Jun. Prof. Dr. J. Marino (https://sites.google.com/site/jamirmarino/).

The PhD student will be an integral part of a new team of researchers covering a broad range of topics including quantum statistical physics, condensed-matter theory, and quantum many-body optics in far-from-equilibrium conditions.

We invite students and young researchers from all over the world who want to connect to the modern trends in controlling complex quantum systems to join us in Vienna.

Keynote talks by world-leading experts from abroad will be accompanied by tutorials and alumni and student presentations on the research activities within the Vienna Doctoral Program on Complex Quantum Systems (CoQuS). They will highlight present achievements and future perspectives in the focus areas of CoQuS: quantum foundations, quantum matter and quantum technologies.

The project is to carry out research in broad theoretical areas of classical and/or quantum non-equilibrium physics, including condensed matter, statistical mechanics, atomic physics, and machine learning.

One area of interest will be exploring the connections between methods and ideas of classical and quantum non-equilibrium systems with approaches and techniques in deep learning and neural networks.
