The school “Frontiers of Quantum Physics and Quantum Information” aims at providing a comprehensive overview of new and exciting research lines at the frontiers of quantum physics by known experts in the field. It covers a broad spectrum of concepts and questions, from abstract problems in quantum information theory to quantum optics experiments using ultra-cold gases.

The cold atoms group at the School of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Nottingham, UK, is looking for a motivated experimentalist to join our work on photonic quantum memories. In this project, we will implement elementary quantum operations with collective excitations of an atomic ensemble. By miniaturising ensemble based quantum memories and integration in an atom chip environment, we will explore routes to expand such operations to universal quantum computation with multi-mode memories, best described as holographic quantum computing.
From July 25 – 27, the 2013 Summer School will be held at ICFO - the Institute of Photonic Sciences in Spain.

The Technical University of Dortmund has an opening for a PostDoc working on the implementation of photonic quantum memories on the basis of rare-earth ion crystals. The successful candidate should design an implement experiments that store photons in the crystals, convert them to nuclear spin degrees of freedom and protect them against environmental perturbations. The project is integrated in the EU-ITN CIPRIS (http://www.cipris.eu/).
