2 PostDoc Positions in Quantum Optics

Oriol Romero-Isart is inviting applications to fill two PostDocs positions to join our theory team in Innsbruck (Austria), jointly affiliated with the Institute for Quantum Optics and Quantum Information (IQOQI)t  of the Austrian Academy of Sciences and the Institute for Theoretical Physics.

The PostDocs will join a team working on the project Q-Xtreme, awarded with an ERC Synergy Grant. The goal of the project is to prepare macroscopic quantum superpositions at unprecedented regimes of mass and spatial delocalization with levitated nanoparticles (see this quantum science seminar for an introduction to this research field). We will work very closely with the experimental groups of M. Aspelmeyer (Vienna), L. Novotny (ETH Zürich), and R. Quidant (ETH Zürich), which are co-PIs of Q-Xtreme.

We are seeking for two highly motivated and enthusiastic  PostDocs to work in one of the two areas:

1. To theoretically understand the interaction of light with a nanoparticle in the quantum regime, including modelling of environmental decoherence and quantum measurements.

2. To design and optimize the experiments to be performed in Q-Xtreme by developing numerical tools. Expertise in computational physics is thus required.

Positions will be open until they are filled. Gross salaries per year are around 54,500 Eur (PostDoc) and 60,000 Eur (Senior Postdoc)
