Tuesday, March 31, 2020

We are offering a funded three year postdoctoral position to a highly motivated and well-qualified researcher who intends to work in the field of quantum thermodynamics. The successful candidate will work as part of the research group led by Jens Eisert at the FU Berlin. For an overview of research activities of the group, see

http://www.physik.fu-berlin.de/en/einrichtungen/ag/ag-eisert/research

We are an active research group with a culture of open discussion, creative interdisciplinary thought and substantial international collaborations.

The position is at the heart of an FQXi funded research network on "Information as Fuel"

https://fqxi.org/grants/large/awardees/list?year=2019-IAF

and is associated with a new international research unit on "Thermal Machines in the Quantum World"

https://www.quantumthermo.de/

It is the core aim of the project to contribute to devising a device that can be seen as the first genuine quantum thermal machine, so a machine performing thermodynamic operations for which quantum mechanics is required to understand its very functioning. At the same time, there is significant room for exploring conceptual questions, non-equilibrium physics or notions of many-body localization.

All applications should be sent in electronic form to jense@physik.fu-berlin.de with the key word "QuantumThermoPostdoc2020" in the subject line. Review of the applications will begin after March 31, 2020 and will continue until the positions are filled. Early submissions are appreciated. The start date is flexible.
