PhD and postdoc positions in quantum computing

Job type:

Application deadline:

Thursday, September 15, 2022

We are inviting applicants for a PhD and for a postdoctoral position in quantum information theory.

The successful candidates will work on current topics in quantum computing, specifically on the design of quantum algorithms and on the certification of quantum computers. These positions will be integrated into the successful and growing landscape of quantum technology projects in the region, including the Cluster of Excellence Matter and Light for Quantum Computing, and the quantum computer demonstrator project QSolid.

Applicants for the postdoctoral position should have prior experience in quantum information theory. While part of the physics institute, we welcome
applications from researchers with a background in math or computer science. We value creativity, mathematical rigor, and openness to interdisciplinary collaborations.

Candidates should send a CV including certificates and a list of publications to david.gross at thp.uni-koeln.de. Please include electronic contact details of a referee. Deadline is September 15th. Later applications will be considered in case the positions will not have been filled. Initial appointments will be for three years. Remuneration will follow the German collective bargaining E13 scale (100% for the postdoctoral position, and 66% in the first year rising to 75% from the second year on for PhD candidates).
