PhD and Postdoc Positions on "Quantum Theory of Network Communication" at Duesseldorf & Cologne

Job type:

Application deadline:

Tuesday, January 15, 2019

The group of Dagmar Bruss at the University of Duesseldorf and the group of David Gross at the University of Cologne are inviting applications for a postdoctoral position (at Duesseldorf) and a PhD position (at Cologne).

The successful candidates will jointly work on the emerging quantum theory of network communication. The positions will be part of the Cluster of Excellence Matter and Light for Quantum Computing, which involves more than twenty theoretical and experimental research groups from Aachen, Bonn, Cologne, Duesseldorf, and Juelich. The project is situated at the interface of quantum information theory, coding theory, and cryptography and will involve a close collaboration with regional quantum optics groups.

Applicants for the postdoctoral position should have prior experience in quantum information theory. We value creativity, mathematical rigor, and openness to interdisciplinary collaborations.

Candidates should send a CV including certificates and a list of publications to quantuminfo@uni-duesseldorf.de and to david.gross@thp.uni-koeln.de. Please include electronic contact details of two referees. Deadline is January 15th 2019. Later applications will be considered in case the positions will not have been filled.

The salary is based on the German TV-L E13 pay scale. Appointments will be for four years at 100% E13 for the postdoctoral researcher (with possible extension), and for three years at 66% (first year) and 75% (later years) E13 for the doctoral candidate.
