Applications are invited for a PhD position in the Nonequilibrium Quantum Dynamics Research Group of Prof. Amikam Levy at the Department of Chemistry, Bar-Ilan University, Israel. The position includes a full fellowship for up to four years.
Research:
The research will focus on theoretical aspects of quantum dynamics and quantum technologies, with possible directions including open quantum systems, quantum control, quantum sensing, and the dynamics of noisy quantum devices.
Projects may involve investigating nonequilibrium quantum systems, developing control protocols for suppressing or exploiting noise, gate engineering, quantum sensing, and exploring the role of quantum coherence, correlations, and measurement in complex quantum dynamics.
Depending on the candidate's interests and background, research topics may include:
- Open quantum systems
- Quantum control
- Quantum information theory and quantum computing
- Quantum technologies and noisy quantum devices
- Quantum sensing and noise spectroscopy
- Quantum gate engineering
The position offers opportunities to develop analytical and numerical methods for investigating fundamental questions in quantum physics and their applications to emerging quantum technologies.
Requirements:
Applicants should have a strong background in physics, chemistry, applied mathematics, or a related field, with a solid foundation in quantum mechanics. Previous experience in one or more of the research topics listed above would be an advantage.
We are looking for a highly motivated, curious, and independent student with a strong interest in theoretical research at the interface of fundamental quantum physics and quantum technologies. Programming experience in Python, Mathematica, MATLAB, Qiskit, or similar tools is highly desirable.
Application:
Interested candidates should submit:
- A CV
- A short motivation letter describing research interests and relevant background
- Academic transcripts
- The names and contact details of three recommenders
Applications and inquiries should be sent to Prof. Amikam Levy, together with a brief description of the candidate's research interests.
