The Quantum Nonlocality, Foundations, and Information group led by Yeong-Cherng Liang is hiring two postdoctoral researchers to work on topics pertinent to the interplay between quantum correlations, marginal problems, and quantum cryptography. The group is based at the National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) in Tainan, Taiwan, but maintains active international collaborations with prominent researchers from various institutions. The group is part of the Center for Quantum Frontiers of Research & Technology (QFort) based at NCKU, where the candidate may also have the opportunity to collaborate with experimental teams such as those led by Tse-Ming Chen, Che-Ming Li, and Paul-Antoine Moreau.
The primary task of the candidate consists of performing research related to the characterization and quantification of quantum correlations in Bell and related scenarios, finding applications of these correlations in cryptographic or other contexts, and exploring their connections with marginal problems. To this end, research experience in Bell nonlocality, (device-independent) quantum cryptography protocols and their security proof, entanglement & other related marginal problems, etc., are especially welcome. As such, the hired candidate should (1) have a proven track record of research competence in one or more of the topics above
(2) be familiar with the topics of quantum nonlocality and its applications in device-independent quantum information (3) have a strong desire to learn and share (4) have good verbal and written communication skills in English (5) have the willingness to guide and supervise graduate students
Depending on the starting date, the initial appointment may last up to a year but is renewable (subject to a positive internal review) yearly until the end of July 2027. The starting gross monthly salary for a fresh Ph.D. graduate is TWD63,110 (~EUR1840). Accordingly, they enjoy a competitive income tax rate (<10%) and a relatively low living cost in Tainan. A candidate with postdoctoral experience will receive a higher wage following the government guidelines. Other benefits of the appointment include (but are not limited to) access to the National Health Insurance of Taiwan (after 6 months of employment), a year-end bonus (1.5 months, possibly prorated depending on the starting date of the appointment), initial relocation (economic class) airfare, contributions toward the retirement fund by the employer (which the candidate can withdraw upon leaving Taiwan).
