Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position at the University of Nottingham, UK. The Ultracold Atoms Group is the youngest group in the School of Physics and Astronomy. It is part of the Midlands Ultracold Atom Research Centre (MUARC), formed together with the Cold Atoms Group at The University of Birmingham. We started our work in 2008 and now have several laboratory setups with ultra-cold atomic gases.

One of our current research directions is to employ magnetically trapped ensembles of atoms for quantum memory applications. In a so-called atom chip environment of micro-fabricated trapping structures, we will employ quantum optical techniques to control the interaction with light and engineer quantum states that are useful, e.g., for quantum communication protocols, precision magnetometry, and certain condensed matter models.

The successful candidate will be expected to join our efforts on early stage quantum optical experiments and expand the existing setup. He/She will work in a research team with close links to experimentalists working on two similar cold atom setups as well as cold atom theorists.

Candidates should have experience in the fields of cold atom physics and/or quantum optics. Salary will be within the range £24273 to £35646 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience. This post will be offered on a fixed-term contract for a period of two years.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to Dr T Fernholz, Email: thomas.fernholz@nottingham.ac.uk Please note that applications sent directly to this Email address will not be accepted. For more details or applying online, please visit:
